Can my paycheck be garnished by my creditors?

No, not by most of them. There is no wage garnishment in SC. However, many creditors will lie to you on the telephone and say that they are going to do this to you. That being said, there are a few types of debts owed where the creditors CAN garnish wages: child support, alimony and taxes. There may be others but the list is very short.

In NC your wages can be garnished for normal debts, but the procedure is somewhat cumbersome and is not often utilized. Of course your wages can be garnished for child support, alimony and taxes with the usual ease.
