How often can I file bankruptcy?

This can be very complicated and there is no one sentence answer. However, the rule of thumb is that you can file a chapter 7 bankruptcy and receive a discharge every 8 years. The old law was every 7 years. You can file a chapter 13 and receive a discharge every 4 years.
