When have I filed bankruptcy?
You have not filed a bankruptcy unless you have paid all of your attorneys fees and costs; you have gotten us all the information we have requested verbally and in writing; you have done your credit counseling; we then have done the paperwork and called you to sign it; you actually have signed it in our office; and THEN we have filed it with the United States Bankruptcy Court. THEN you are in bankruptcy.
Just doing one of the above does not mean you are in bankruptcy.
Usually, when you sign your bankruptcy petition and schedules we will tell you when we believe we will file your case. Sometimes we will delay filing your case because filing it immediately will cause you not to qualify for bankruptcy relief based on technical reasons; or because filing it at that time will cause you to have a hearing when you or your attorney cannot appear in court.
